Trim Installation
Interior trim work is the finishing stage of a flooring or renovation project that involves installing molding and decorative elements to cover gaps and provide a polished look.
Not just a floorman that can throw the quarter round in, Corey Walker Flooring will put in the trim that is right for your project. Coping corners and installing proper returns to achieve maximum aesthetics and finishing value of the trim.
Common Types of Interior Trim
- Baseboards: Installed at the bottom of walls where they meet the floor. These can be repaired or replaced during flooring projects to match new materials.
- Quarter-Round/Shoe Mold: A small, curved molding often installed over baseboards to hide the expansion gap required for "floating" floors like LVP.
- Transitions: Molding used in doorways or where different types of flooring meet to create a smooth and "flowing" connection.
- Door Trim (Casing): Decorative molding that frames door openings. In some cases, existing trim can be removed and saved for reuse.
The Finishing Process
- Installation: Trim is typically the final step after the flooring is complete to ensure each room is put back in order.
- Caulking and Patching: Gaps and nail holes in the trim are filled with caulk or putty to create a seamless appearance.
- Sanding and Painting: New or repaired trim, such as baseboards, may require light sanding and painting or touch-ups to match the surrounding area.
